What the hell are vampires doing coming into a werewolf establishment? Aubery Ferrell, pack master and owner of the Timberwolves Diner, asked himself that question one night after a troupe of vampires entered his diner.
Unknown to Aubrey, Emma, his younger sister has been practicing witchcraft. Emma has sent out a call for the universe to send her the first vampire. What she got instead is six vampires that are older than the history of mankind, determined to stop Emma and her witchcraft.
Even with the supernatural werewolf strength, can Aubrey protect Emma from vampires who have come to destroy her?

Title: The First: A Vampire TaleAuthor: Monique Bowden Guice
Series: I certainly hope so!
Designation: Standalone Novella, Happy for Now
My Rating: FOUR VERY ENTERTAINING STARS*****
I saw this book advertised in one of my Facebook author/book promotion groups and something about the title and cover piqued my interest. I tend to lean toward stories containing anything supernatural and this author's blurb drew me in. I decided on a whim to give it a read and so glad I did. I'd never heard of Monique Bowden Guice before today and after a little research, I discovered this was her first release but after reading her book, I now find this hard to believe. I can only say that the skill demonstrated in this book certainly promises a wonderful future for Guice as a writer. Although I enjoy most books that fall into the supernatural/paranormal/fantasy genres, I normally read only those that contain some romance and preferably also include, at least, a small measure of passion and sex. Oddly, I found that I truly loved this book, yet it had no real romance and no actual sex. It did have the suggestion of an attraction which I strangely found to be not only extremely provocative and sensual, but also inexplicably engaging and captivating. Of course, my unusual reaction to this story may be, in part, due to the remarkable craftsmanship and exceptional execution. This author is an extraordinary storyteller with an astounding imagination, a very strong grasp of language and grammar skills along with plot building and character development. I also found her to be very adept at putting her thought and story ideas into a very easy to follow and entertaining tale. Additionally, I was surprised and impressed at how well the narrative and dialogue has been edited and formatted. This was a free read so my expectations were not high but I guess the old adage certainly applies here - 'never judge a book by its cover'. This short story/novella can most definitely be read as a standalone and does not end in a cliffhanger but rather more like a happy for now. But after having read this story, I can only hope that this is just the beginning because this story could serve as a prequel to a fascinating series. I've been an avid reader for 60 years and in that time, I've read an incalculable number of vampire/werewolf tales but I freely admit, the concept for this story was one of the most unique, original and intriguing that I've ever encountered. So, to sum it all up, if you're interested in reading an exceptionally well crafted, well executed and well written fantasy explaining the creation of the very first vampire and how it led to the propagation of the vampire species, then please give Monique Guice's accounting a whirl. No spoilers from me but I will say this.... A handsome sexy werewolf packmaster-check! A beautiful, curvaceous and very seductive female vampire-check! A young, lovely and very inquisitive female werewolf tween who has a very inquiring mind and may be too intelligent for her own good-check!! A cast of courageous and fascinating characters-check! A very unique and entertaining story-check! An unlikely but steamy attraction between a werewolf and a vampire along with the hint of a possible blossoming romance between the two mortal enemies-you bet! That and a whole lot more! What did I like about this book? Everything! What didn't I like? Not a darn thing! Is the absolute best book I've ever read? No, but it more than held my interest and kept me glued to my seat from the first page until the last! Was I entertained? Totally! Would I recommend it? You bet and I am! Why didn't I give it five stars? It was a great story but there were several looming questions that were never resolved nor answered to my satisfaction and since there was no explanation as to whether this was a one-and-done or the beginning of a series, I had to end the book with the assumption that I may never get my answers. There is no bad language, explicit violence nor sex, but I would urge the reader be at least twelve and older since there is a suggestion of certain attractions and sexual situations. Fabulous entertainment and an awesome read!

The First a vampire tale eBook Monique Bowden Guice Reviews
I haven't read many origin vampire stories, so I enjoyed this one, which kept my attention.
As a person who loves to read paranormal stories I get really excited when I find something original. This was a wonderful blend of witches and vampires. I could see this becoming a series but this story did have an ending.
Considering it was almost completely devoid of an action, it was still a good read. Good character development, and good plot. The story does keep you in suspense, and it has a very dark feeling to it, which I really liked. Definitely room for a series of books. Keep up the good work Monique, I like where you're going with this.
I don't usually read about vampires and werewolves, but I loved the tension and suspense this one offers. Must read.
This book has so much detail, I can see it being played out as a movie already! I wish I had more to read, I cannot wait for the next book to come out! I recommend this book to anyone who likes a good read (especially about vamps and werewolves)!
The author's debut novella has me happily anticipating her next one! The story has intrigue, mystery and action. It kept me in suspense and the main characters were nicely developed. Now I want to know more about them - both the vampires and the werewolves. Will there be a truce or a battle to come? I enjoyed this story. If you like a good, suspenseful tale, this is for you. Will romance bloom in the next one? We shall see! Monique, please don't make us wait too long for the next book! -)
I truly enjoyed this author's first work. It's been a long time coming and it did not disappoint. The different spin on a story told many times over was very refreshing. I found myself wishing for the oddest of characters to find love. I cannot wait for the next book to find out what happened beyond this story. This is an awesome quick read and I highly recommend. Good job!
